'Let it be'
Legless Blog -I first decided to create this blog page after seeing all of the bad publicity given to and constant hounding of my fellow legless celebrity, Heather Mills on many other websites and in the media in general. This page I have created as a place where I can state my personal opinions, thoughts and musings openly, and share my views and feelings with the Internet World.
This is my legless website, I pay for it and I am the manager, owner/boss/king of it, so 'legless or not', as 'freedom of speech' is still a basic human right in true democratic countries where you can view this blog, then I feel that this is somewhere that I can speak my mind without recourse. This is not a commercial page, it is just my own social media page. Nobody has forced any of you to come here and nobody is holding you here, so if you don't agree or like what you are reading here, then please feel free to leave at anytime!
As someone who has exactly the same physical injuries that I have, I find that the hounding of Heather Mills by the media is disgusting. I now see how celebrities, legless or not, can never have a normal life, because they never have time to themselves without someone from the media trying to drag up any kind of dirt from what would just be a normal everyday incident to anyone else, but in Heather's case any normal incident gets sensationalised by the media. Heather's physical disability seems to incite them more, and being honest, if I personally was hounded the way that Heather is, then some of these media personnel would consider being just 'legless' a bonus after the physical injuries that I would personally inflict upon them. I am thoroughly disgusted at the treatment of Heather, I suppose you could call it a feeling of 'Legless unity', so if any of the media responsible are reading this blog, then in Paul McCartney's own words "Let it be".
We are both legless!

I received an email from Google today, because a while ago I registered with them for Google Apps. Now they have given me a free website which I can develop and share with others on the internet, this is an excellent idea by Google, because now you dont need an office or a website of your own to share information, files, images, etc. You can give access to other people to upload their files onto your site and they can leave messages/comments for you using the convenience of your own personal Google site. You can also create new folders/files and give access to these to anyone or everyone, it is your choice. If you already have websites yourself you can also link to them from your Google site.
I think this is a very good idea by Google, the convenience of corresponding and sharing files with many people by using just one URL on the internet, I think is wonderful and very far sighted of Google.
So take a look at my new Google site http://sites.google.com/a/reedinter.co.uk/legless/Home and whilst you are there sign up with Google Sites yourself and start your own website/office/social media site or anything else that you would like to use it for, it is free to join.

Legless in Thailand with Google sites
After my last good message from my UK bank about my compensation, yesterday I received a reply from them about my wishing to open a new bank account with them. This time the news was not so good, they stated that they needed to talk to me on the phone about this. So I replied to them telling them that, I don't have access to a phone for making International calls, I live on a farm in the countryside and the nearest public phone is three miles away, I have no transport and I am legless anyway. I went on to ask them in my reply why they needed to talk to me, all I want is a basic bank account and they have all of my details anyway, I have been with them for more than six years now. They replied very quickly and said that they do need to speak to me to review details and that I would need to go to a branch office within two weeks to sign anyway.
I was going to reply to tell them that they already have all of my details and nothing has changed, also that the only branch of their bank in Thailand is in Bangkok, which is more than 200 km away from me and I am legless and without transport, but their messaging system had a problem and stopped working. So now it looks like just a simple matter of opening a second bank account is not possible with them. All that I need is somewhere to put some of my money so that I can hide a portion of it away from my ATM card carrying 'friends' around me. I could understand all of this from the bank, if I were applying to a new bank in another country, but I cannot understand this with a bank that I have been a good customer with for over six years now. So the only solution to my dilemma that I can come up with, is that I have an account with the UK national lottery (Camelot) that I play regularly with and I can transfer money over the internet into and out of this account as required up to a limit of 300 pounds sterling, so it looks like I am going to have to start hiding some of my money in my lottery account with Camelot and then just transfer some of it back to my bank account at times when I think that I need it and can get access to it myself, without the 'parasites' around me being aware.

Legless with a dilemma in Thailand
I received a message from my bank yesterday saying that they apologised for the oversight with regards to my compensation package and that the compensation that they promised for the Penang incident will be placed in my account in two to three days time. When I checked my bank account on the internet, the compensation had already been paid in yesterday. So my bank came through in the end, much later than expected, but it shows to me that they are responsible and do take care of their customers. Thank you HSBC!
Now, if they can just open this second account for me, then I can take care of my other pressing problem.

Doing my usual SEO work for my websites and book yesterday evening, after I had gone through my set list of keywords that I normally use, I just sat back relaxing with a beer and trying to think of other keywords that may apply to my sites. Then after a while, just for fun and still relaxing after finishing my main work for the day, because I have described my book as 'the autobiography of a fool', I put my name 'Legless' with one of these words 'fool' and searched using one of the major search engines and sure enough, my website came up on the first results page. Then a little later still just playing around, I thought that I would try these words on the other search engines too and the same thing happened on every one of them.
So now I can honestly say that the major search engines unanimously agree that I am a high ranking 'legless fool' on the web ![]()

Your legless fool in Thailand
Today looking at some of the usual websites that I use on the internet, it is the first time that I have really noticed that some of the more professional websites have an icon at the side of their website / URL name in your browser. So this gave me an idea, I thought that it would be good for me to have an icon on my website too, the problem was that I had never done this before, so I had to do some research about this on the internet.
Eventually, I found a website that explained it all and you just have to select the image/logo that you want, save it as a .ico file, add a little html code to the 'head' part of your webpage source code that points to this icon, then update and save your webpage and icon and upload them to your server. Then when you next browse your webpage click the 'refresh' button on your browser and your new URL icon appears in the browser window. If you have clicked the 'refresh' button on your browser on this page today, then you should see my new icon displayed today. I learn something new everyday ![]()

Legless with icons in Thailand
Today I have been in contact with my UK bank for two reasons:
1. I am trying to start a new bank account so that I can place some of my money in the new account that cannot be accessed by my existing ATM card.
2. I am also trying to sort out an incident that happened about nine months ago in Penang, if you have not already read it, then please take a look at my short story 'Penniless in Penang'
After the Penang incident I complained to my bank about unnecessary and totally wrong blocking of my ATM card, which caused me to stay in Penang a lot longer than I had planned for and also caused me a lot of actual physical pain being legless, from my amputated leg walking from ATM machine to ATM machine in Penang trying to access my funds which my bank had wrongfully blocked. My bank sent me a letter in June 2007, apologising for the mistake and inconvenience caused and said that they would compensate me with thirty pounds sterling as a goodwill gesture, even though it actually cost me a lot more than this, I accepted it as a show of responsibility from them at that time. Well, it is now nine months later and still no sign of this compensation money from my bank, so a few weeks ago I complained through my bank's online messaging system and asked them about this money, I just received a reply today saying that they had looked into the matter and that they could not find any reference to thirty pounds compensation anywhere, so could I please explain.
This morning I retrieved the letter from the bank from my files stating that they would pay me this thirty pounds sterling as a goodwill gesture and I copied it word for word including the complaint reference number and sent it to the person that I am contact with now through the bank messaging system. So we shall see what happens next, if they still refuse to acknowledge and pay this relatively meagre compensation, then I shall have to take this matter up with the UK Financial Ombudsman Service and I shall keep you updated on here with events concerning this, because irrespective of the outcome of this incident, I shall place the name of the bank and their logo on here for everyone to see, because I am really upset about this now, so it is now up to the bank now and they have been warned.
Again, for those who want to read about my incident in Penang please take a look at: http://www.expostfacto.co.uk/Penang.html

Legless in Thailand
Like I said a while ago in my blog, because I am legless now after my accident, I find that it is good for me to use the word 'legless' with anything that I do now, because people now associate this word with me easily and it is my nickname with my close friends now too. This I have already done with my websites, my book and this blog, but in normal business that I have been thinking about, I am still not sure that it would work.
Would you buy a computer from a company named Legless Computers or Legless Information Technology? Or would you contract an engineer from a company named either Legless Support Services, Legless Maintenance Services, Legless Technical Developments or Legless Technical Services? That is just about my ideas with regards to computers and electronics, which is my main profession. I am also interested in opening restaurants, bars and resorts, but with this I think it would be much easier to use my legless name such as: Legless Corner Cafe, Legless Meeting place, Legless Inn, Legless Cuisine, Legless Chicken bar, Legless Snack bar, Legless Friends bar, Legless Music bar, Legless Hideaway, Legless Retreat, Legless Resort, etc., etc.
I am getting well ahead of myself here with this now though, I have the ideas for business but I do not have the money to start anything yet, although I do think that it is always better to plan ahead and keep a record of your ideas for the future, so that when you are in the financial position to do something, then you only have to go through your records and you can start your new business from your previous well thought out business ideas.

Legless business in Thailand
Lightening the mood a little today after talking about my personal problems over the last two posts. Heather Mills has been in the limelight again in the last few days, apparently she is now in the top 100 of the world's sexiest women and is vieing for the crown of the sexiest woman in the world. So if she can do it, maybe there is hope for me yet if legless is appealing.
She does have a bit of an advantage though, she has a bit more money than I do.

Legless in Thailand
Further to my post yesterday, I now have to come up with a workable plan of action to extradite myself from the situation that I now find myself in. The people that I am staying with do not know that I am aware of what they have been doing and I have to keep them in the dark, just keep smiling at them as normal and work on a plan to get out of here.
I have many obstacles to overcome, so it has to be planned carefully. My first obstacle is the lack of money, seeing as how they have been regularly milking my bank account, they have my ATM card because I am legless, I have no transport and I cannot go to the ATM machine myself, so without them I have no access to any money at all, yet with them I only have access to what is required to keep me happy and pretend that there are no problems, whilst they are pocketing the rest of my money.
I have internet banking, but if I cancel my ATM card, then I have no access to cash myself and any new ATM card would have to come to this address anyway, so that is out of the question. One option that I have thought about, is opening a new bank account with my bank on the internet and transferring some of my money into it from my existing account and then asking my bank to issue a new ATM card for the new account, that is one possible way to go, because then I can control the amount of money that they have access to, without them knowing.
The second option that I have thought about, is if I can get to my bank ATM machine myself, then I can change the PIN number on my card, so that when they try to use it, it will not work and I can just blame the bank and say that they must have blocked it, or say that it has expired and I need to get a new one, but the nearest branch of my bank is in Bangkok which is more than 200 km away, so that would really need some planning.
The second obstacle that I have is that even when I do have access to some money to break away from here, and I think that is going to take about two months, I have nowhere to go to, nowhere to stay. If I can get away from here, I would like to go back to Bangkok again, but then I need somewhere to stay in Bangkok and I also need a pickup truck to carry all of my posessions with me, the bulky items being a three piece suite (sofa and two chairs), a refridgerator and a table. So even if I can divert some of my money, the next problem is how to arrange for accommodation in Bangkok and transport to take me there, for this I would need the help of someone in Bangkok and the friends that I have there that can help are very few.
So the above is what I am thinking about at the moment, because I cannot carry on this way knowing that the people around me are syphoning my money away, I have had too much of that in the past, but there were emotional feelings blinding me then, there are no such emotions involved here, so I just have to plan carefully and logically and just pretend that I am happy and ignorant to what is actually happening here.

Legless with a plan in Thailand
My book 'Legless in Thailand' being an autobiography, the events that I wrote about in my book were about my life in Thailand in fairly recent years, I had to finish writing it about two years ago so that I could get my story published, but my actual life doesn't end there, just the book does. Whilst writing my book and reflecting over my life in the words and the mistakes that I made, I promised myself that I would never let my emotions control my life again and fall into the same mistakes that I made before.
But because I have been focusing on not letting my emotions dictate my life anymore, I have let my attention slip from other things going on around me and rather than paying attention to details, I have just been living almost like a recluse, never doing anything, never going anywhere unless I have to (visas) and never meeting anyone new. I have just been living day to day on the farm, my only luxuries being a couple of beers each evening, updating my websites and writing this blog. The main reason that I moved to live on this farm in the first place was financial, on the small medical pension that I live on now, living in an apartment in Bangkok allowed me only to save a very small amount of money each month, so when 'a friend' offered to let me stay on her farm in the Thai countryside, rent free and only pay for the electricity that I use and the telephone for my internet connection, I jumped at it and thought that by doing this that I could actually start to save some money again, because my personal daily/monthly expences are very little. So I moved to live here ten months ago.
Then last month, for the first time in six years since I have had my bank account with them, I was overdrawn in my bank and the bank charged me for it. That is when I started looking at details again and trying to find out exactly where my money has been going to and the conclusion that I have come to is this, just as in my life in my book, which I personally call 'the autobiography of a fool', I have been 'a fool again', this time not emotionally, but I have allowed people around me, that I considered to be my only 'friends' now, to take advantage of me for almost one year, without me even noticing or being interested, mainly because of my lack of interest in life in general now.
The main problem that I have now is, that even though I now realise what has been going on around me for the last ten months, there is absolutely nothing that I can do about it now. I am legless, I am on a farm in the Thai countryside far away from the nearest town, I have no other friends, I have nowhere to go to, I have no transport and more importantly now, I have no money, so I cannot just get up and go somewhere else, and I cannot let the people that I am staying with know that I am onto their game now. The only posessions that I have in the world are here with me and they are just my clothes, my computer, a three piece suite and a table, so what can I do?

Legless and a fool in Thailand
A subject that I have not spoken about on this blog for a long time now, is the subject of Scammers, Advance Fee Fraud, Nigerian Scam 419. This is something that I deal with everyday, I play with these scammers and hopefully whilst they are dealing with me, I hope that they are leaving other people alone. For anyone reading this post that does not understand what I am talking about here, then please take a look at: http://www.expostfacto.co.uk/Advancefeefraud.html where I have explained about these sick, prevalent scams on the internet.
I have been playing with these scammers on a daily basis for more than three years now and I usually have at least three on the go at any one time. At the moment I have a supposedly very rich woman who is slowly dying and who wants me to use her money to help the poor and underprivileged people in society with her fictitious millions. I have another one who is a supposedly senior government official of his country, who has over-invoiced a government project and needs a foreigner to act as the contractor who carried out a project and to receive the funds (millions) to share with him. I always pretend to believe them and look like a perfect target to them, but what I am really doing is recording all of their details, contact numbers, IP addresses and the MO of their scam. I am keeping all of these scams for a future book that I have planned about scammers and in my scam vault now, I have about 2,500 of these scams recorded, so I know most of the MO scenarios off-by-heart now and I know which way they are going to try to move next in every fictitious scenario that they come up with, and they come up with new ones regularly.
These scammers are a major threat on the internet now, an estimated value of the amount of money that these scammers defraud from ordinary people runs into the billions of dollars per year now. One of the downsides of being a scam player, is that many of these scammers are using my name and identity in their scams now, so if you receive an email from a Mr. Ian Reed who is supposedly a director/manager/agent of some bank or financial organisation offering you a very lucrative proposal, then I can assure you that it is not me and it is definitely not genuine.

I am writing a new novel at the moment entitled 'Ex Post Facto' and unlike my previous book 'Legless in Thailand' which is my autobiography, this time it is a pure work of fiction, but based around genuine characters from my life in my first book and so obviously it is again set in Thailand.
The story this time is about time travel, going back in time to a time and place that I have experienced before, but this time I am viewing the 'present' using hindsite 'ex post facto'. The Latin term 'Ex Post Facto' in English means 'after the fact' and in this case it means that to me, this period in the book is after the fact because I have lived through it before and it is set in a time when I still had two legs long before I became legless. More about my new novel and a sample from it can be seen at my website for this new book: http://www.expostfacto.co.uk
On the same website I have put a webpage with access to some short stories that I have written and refer to as my 'Ex Post Facto true short stories'. If anyone is interested, the webpage to access these short stories is: http://www.expostfacto.co.uk/shortstories.html

The RSS feed that I am now using and the Blog and RSS directories that I registered on are working well already. Doing my usual daily SEO for my websites yesterday, my rankings were high and the only competition for my main keywords are from the directories that are promoting my own legless blog, so I am now competing for search engine rankings against myself, quite a pleasant but strange situation.
The weather here in Thailand is starting to get quite warm now and will continue to get hotter until it reaches it's peak in mid-April, I need a cool beer! ![]()

When my book 'Legless in Thailand' was published last year, I realised that I had to try and promote it myself, because the publisher does not help at all, even though they get 80% of the proceeds from any sales. The only means that was available to me on my very limited budget was the internet and I had my own websites already, so I started promoting my book on my websites, created new pages, selected suitable keywords and started really trying to make my book-related web pages popular with the search engines doing SEO.
Search engine optimisation SEO, has now become a full-time job for me because it does take up a lot of time to do it properly, even on a daily basis. The SEO has worked quite well for my website rankings, although I still do not know if any of my books are being sold, my publisher never gives me any feedback about this and when I query them, they just say that they are only under contract to give me a report on sales two times per year and the two brief reports that they have given me so far have both said that there has been zero sales of my book. I find this very hard to believe with my search engine rankings and daily SEO, but I have no way to check this, my publisher is in America and I am legless in Thailand, they could have sold millions for all I know.
As a by-product of my SEO work for my book, my writing name of John McMiken has also become very high profile on the web, just doing a search on my writing name now, not only brings me up in position one or two on the search engine first result page SERP, I actually come up in every entry on the first two pages of the SERP on some of the major search engines. So now John McMiken has inadvertantly become a kind of internet web celebrity. If anyone reading this entry has purchased my book 'Legless in Thailand', then I would really appreciate some feedback by email, because I get absolutely none from my publisher.

As I said before, once I understood RSS, XML files, then they are quite easy to create and update, but I am still learning. I thought that it was just the same system as websites, you just link to your RSS feed from a high ranking webpage, which I have, then the search engines will find it and list it automatically. But it is not quite as simple as that, I can find this blog in any search engine now, because I do SEO daily, but I couldn't find my RSS feed anywhere.
On further research into this, I found out that RSS feeds and blogs are listed in special directories, not just normal search engines and these are used to feed the search engines. So still learning, I managed to find a listing of all of the directories that specialise in RSS and blogs and it is a very long list. Next I started working my way through this list and it is a very slow process, because many of these directories you have to register on before they will accept any RSS link from you.
But I worked my way through the list eventually and hopefully today my blog RSS feed will be more visible on the web.

It has been quiet for a while on the Heather Mills front, but now she is making the headlines again. This time it is about her representing herself in her divorce court proceedings against Sir Paul McCartney. Other prominent UK divorce lawyers are saying things like "She must be mad to do it herself" or "She has a mountain to climb" but I think I understand her.
She has had problems before with her previous lawyers about them leaking confidential material to the media and although she doesn't want any leaks to the media, she really doesn't want any leaks about her 'plan of attack' to Sir Paul's legal team and this I think, is what is more important to her. For Heather to feel confident to represent herself in the divorce court, then she must have a very strong case that she knows will guarantee her victory and she does not want any of her plan to leak out ahead of the proceedings.
Like me she is legless and also like me she copes with it as a normal part of everyday life and doesn't let it get her down, having a prosthetic leg is the last thing she worries about or even thinks about, I know because I am exactly the same, I never give my prosthetic leg a second thought after fitting it in the morning. I don't consider myself to be disabled at all and I am sure that Heather feels and thinks the same way.
I am fairly sure that there will be a lot of media hype about Heather very soon, because if Sir Paul has any brains at all, then he should know that she is going to win and worse for him, is that the details of his personal life will be made public in the courtroom, so I am fairly certain that he will make a last minute out-of-court settlement with Heather, to protect his perceived reputation as a 'nice guy'. I am confident that Heather will be triumphant in the end, because she is not the 'nasty person' that is the character that the media are trying to project.
"Good luck to you Heather, give the media their well-deserved come-uppance"
Legless in ThailandI realised a while ago that I should put this blog on an RSS feed so that people can see instantly on their computer when there has been a new post on here. The problem was that even though I am a computer engineer and website designer, RSS is quite new to me and I didn't really understand how it operated. So I started to search on the internet for the keywords RSS feed creation and after many wrong links, I eventually found a website that explained RSS in detail and gave an example of the XML file required to make it work and just by following the clear and fairly simple instructions on this site, I had my RSS feed up and running just one hour and one beer later. ![]()
The webpage and post that I found for RSS is: http://www.downes.ca/cgi-bin/page.cgi?post=56 with the quite amusing title of: 'How to Create an RSS Feed with Notepad, a Web Server, and a Beer.' It is written by Stephen Downes and it is very easy to follow, So if you are interested in creating an RSS feed for your own webpage, blog or website, I definitely recommend that you go to the link above.

Today is Valentine's Day and you are supposed to be totally concerned with the love of your life, show your affections openly and make it a wonderful day for the pair of you. But, spare a moment today and think about the people out there who do not have a loved one and will just spend today like any other day all alone and just killing time. If you see someone like this just sitting quietly somewhere whilst you, your partner and friends are enjoying yourselves, then please take the time to wish them a happy Valentine's day, give them a drink if you have one and make them feel a little special and loved today too.
I have opened another shared folder on my Ask MyStuff site named Legless fun pics and I have put some amusing photos on there for people to enjoy, so if you have the time and want to see them, take a look at: http://mystuff.ask.com/public/legless/folders/Legless fun pics and enjoy.

A few days ago I told you that I had joined Squidoo as Legless, well yesterday I also joined Ask My Stuff as Legless and again this is a very good social media site. You can create your own webpage, talk about yourself and list websites that interest you, you can upload photos and also create directories for yourself and you can share these directories by making them 'public' and even create a blog.
These social media sites are a means for anyone to communicate with other like-minded people and to share your interests with them. My public directory on Ask is: http://mystuff.ask.com/public/legless/folders/Legless group so you can take a look if you want to and create your own pages whilst you are there.

A long time ago I used to run a Thai girl internet dating website named siamgirl.com and it operated quite well, I attended many weddings as a result of this website. This is what I was doing on the evening that I had my accident, I had just met one Thai girl at the bus station in Pattaya and arranged for her to meet the person from my dating website who had arrived in Thailand to meet her and was staying in a hotel nearby. I was just returning home after this meeting when I had my accident, I woke up three weeks later in a hospital in Pattaya minus one of my legs, this is all covered in my book 'Legless in Thailand'.
I am writing about this today because I have been approached to start another new internet dating website for some Thai girls. I worked today on creating the basic pages for this new dating website and I have placed it on my Ex Post Facto server so I have named it 'Ex Post Facto Soulmates', it is still in the early stages yet, but I had to get the basic webpages designed and onto the internet quickly, so that the search engines can start to see it and add it to their cache memory. I hope that it will be ready for 'Valentine's day' and that this new Soulmates dating website does as well as the Siamgirl one did that I had before.

I have been quiet for a few days now because the Ramsay Hunt Syndrome (RHS) has been really kicking in, I have been in constant pain on one side of my head, face and neck, and one eye will not close and gets very dry, so I have to keep moisturising it. This is a new experience for me, being legless I have gotten use to over the years and I don't even think about it now, but this (RHS) that I have now is definitely distracting me.
Going on to other news now though. I joined 'Squidoo' a couple of days ago and quite obviously my name on Squidoo is 'Legless'. I had heard about this website before but I had never really looked at it properly until recently. For anyone who would like to have an internet webpage/homepage of their own Squidoo is ideal, it is free and they give you lots of easy to follow instructions about creating a homepage of your own on there, so I can recommend it.

The BP symptoms were different for me, but I found that I could cope with them relatively easily, this RHS now is something else. I am now in constant pain on one side of my face, head and neck all emanating from my inner ear, so I have to take painkillers all the time. The 'vertigo' that I now have with RHS would be bad enough if I had two legs, but being legless, I now walk as if I am 'legless drunk' all the time. ![]()
The worst thing for me about this RHS though, is that the right side of my face is affected and this is the side that I usually lie on when I sleep, but any kind of pressure on the right side of my face aggravates things a lot, even just the pressure from pillows, so sleeping has now become a problem too. ![]()
Well, enough about my problems now, I don't want to depress anybody. I hope that everyone reading this is fine, I shall just have to drink more beer at night. ![]()
